7 Questions with Vicki Hinkey

Our latest Solutionist Spotlight features Vicki Hinkey, one of our superstar claims adjusters. There’s a good reason employers know her by name, she’s handled claims at FFVA Mutual for more than 27 years.

Get to know Vicki better through her answers to our 7 questions.

Solutionist Spotlight: Vicki Hinkey

1. What do you like most about your job/role at FFVA Mutual?
   As a claims adjuster, one of the things I like best about my position is developing relationships. I have handled South Florida claims for 20 years and claims in Central Florida for 10 years. I feel the continuity builds lasting relationships not only with policyholders but also our agents, doctors and attorneys.

1. What makes FFVA Mutual different from other workers’ comp carriers?
   While there are many things that make FFVA Mutual unique, one that comes to the forefront is the hands-on team approach. I like how our claims, underwriting and safety departments work together for the benefit our policyholders.

1. If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
   Gourmet chef- I love to cook and entertain, it’s how I use my creative brain.

1. What 3 traits define you?
   This is a hard one, but three traits that define me are tenacity, loyalty & confidence.

1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
   My favorite childhood memory is being in the kitchen with my grandmother. I was one of many grandchildren but the only one who cooked with her. I have the fondest memories of making homemade pies, crust included, and holiday meals with her. She is why I can make some darn good gravy with no lumps. When we made pies, she would beat the meringue by hand with a whisk in an old crock bowl. I can still hear the sound of the whisk scraping against the bowl as she was beating the egg whites. When she passed away, all I wanted was her roasting pan and whisk – which I am happy to say I use both all the time.

1. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
   Being out on our boat and deep-sea fishing with my family. There is nothing more relaxing than being on the water and the “fresh catch of the day” is an added bonus!

1. What is the one thing you can’t live without?
   Retail therapy. I admit I have a problem – I love to shop. I believe they say that’s the first step, right? It is just relaxing to me and I love buying things for others. My son is in the process of buying his first home and my daughter is getting married next summer so I have a lot of shopping to do. Look out!

BONUS:
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is charter a yacht and cruise the Mediterranean with my family.
