According to OSHA, workplace violence is “any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at work.”

During a time when employees may be experiencing additional stress due to the economy, disruption of daily routines, reduced work hours or layoffs, employers should be prepared to identify potential threats and have policies and procedures in place to prevent workplace violence.

Quick Facts:

  • Acts of violence is the third-leading cause of fatal occupational injuries in the United States.
  • OSHA has identified factors that may increase the risk of violence for certain workers or workplaces. Factors include exchanging money with the public, working with unstable people, working alone or in isolated areas.
